BREWER — The Brunswick High School football team ran its record to 5-1 Friday night with a 33-12 Eastern Maine Class A win over the Witches.
The Brunswick defense came out hard in the second half and had two takeaways and forced a three-and-out to spark the team.
Max Roberts led the charge with an interception and forced a fumble that Nick Votta recovered to set the offense up in great field position. That combination and three scores in the third period by the offense had the jayvee team in the game early in the fourth quarter to put away a game Brewer squad as the Dragons led only 13-12 at the break.
Offensively John Williams led the way with 132 yards on 13 carries and three TDs. Williams also caught a 44-yard pass from Stefan Jensen for a TD to put the Dragons up 33-12 early in the fourth. Jeremy Diaz also was terrific all night with 100 yards of offense on 11 carries, and Rashon Edgerton added 97 and a TD on 10 carries.
The Brunswick offensive line of Alex Tait, Harrison Kemp, Jacob Pfaff, Ed Bonar, James Cejka, Evan Mahoney and Derrick Derosa played well.
“To have two runners get 100 or more and a third at 97 shows how well these guys played, and in very sloppy conditions,” praised head coach Dan Cooper of his offensive line.
Defensively Cejka led the way with 16 tackles. Kemp and Williams had eight each, and Dylan Walton and Pfaff had four each. Edgerton had a key interception in the first half.
