Brunswick boys, MA girls AVL champs
SOUTH PARIS — The Andy Valley League Cross Country Championships were held Wednesday at Oxford Hills Middle School and won by the Brunswick Junior High boys and Mt. Ararat Middle School girls.
The Brunswick boys scored 28 points and were followed by Mt. Ararat (47), Oxford Hills (77), Tripp of Turner (99) and Bath (128).
Nate McKenzie of Mt. Ararat was the eventual champion as he won his sixth straight AVL event and toured the course in 11:57.
Keenan Welzel of Brunswick finished second in 12:21.
Top runners for Brunswick included Joshua Clark (fifth, 13:22), Jacob Hunter (sixth, 13:23), Walter Martin (seventh, 13:29) and Shane Lyons (eighth, 13:32).
Running for Mt. Ararat were Matt Gott (third, 12:39), Tyler Brady (12th, 13:50), Shea Nelson (13th, 13:51) and Joey Reed (18th, 15:01).
Top runners for Bath included Kaleb Goodison (19, 15:08), Matt Cressey (22, 15:20), Noah Lapointe (28, 16:18), Wesley Mellor (29, 16:47) and David Rice (30, 16:55).
Caley Nicholson of Brunswick won the girls race in 13:23, 11 seconds better than runner-up Olivia Sawn of Mt. Ararat.
The Mt. Ararat girls won with 26 points, followed by Brunswick (29), Oxford Hills (91) and Tripp (104).
Other top runners for Mt. Ararat included Emmie Cox (third, 14:24), Alicia Caterina (fifth, 14:33), Kelly Lynch (sixth, 14:43) and Carmen Caterina (15:05).
Top-five Brunswick runners were Anna Turner (fourth, 14:30), Brooke Escoe (seventh, 14:53), Tiffany Tanner (eighth, 14:55) and Lena Martin (ninth, 15:05).
Top Bath runners included Emily Belanger (32, 18:04) and Ariele Curran (36, 19:40).
